While I can’t say I’m really sold on the idea, Belkin is expanding its keyboard lineup to the smaller iPad mini. The company has announced its new Portable Keyboard Case that combines a removable keyboard and folio case in one package.
Belkin said the keyboard has well-spaced keys for its small size. Connection with the iPad mini is made via Bluetooth, and the keyboard has an active battery life of up to 155 hours. Unlike other cases, there is a hole for the smaller tablet’s rear camera.
The keyboard also had iPad mini-specific shortcuts to control the audio and video functions. Along with keyboard being removable, it folds flat into the case, making the system easy to store and carry.
The Portable Keyboard Case will retail for $79.99 and can now be preordered on Amazon.com. It will also be available on Belkin’s website and at Walmart sometime this month.
Along with this case, Belkin made news earlier this month by being the first third-party manufacturer to have Lightning-compatible accessories for sale. The company’s car charger and dock are both shipping today and can be purchased for $29.99.
I’d like to actually get the chance to use a keyboard case with the mini soon to test out my typing skills. But I can’t see how such a small set of keys would be anywhere near comfortable enough to use for long periods of time.
