Does Spectrum Run Pass The Endless Running Test With Flying Colors?

There’s a new endless runner in iOS town, and it’s called Spectrum Run.

Now, you might be thinking, “Not another Temple Run ripoff!” I’m glad to report, though, that Spectrum Run is far from being one.

First of all, Spectrum Run is not a behind-the-back endless runner like Temple Run. Also, there’s no collecting of coins, power-ups, and whatnot in Spectrum Run.

Actually, Spectrum Run resembles Canabalt. But only in that, like Canabalt, Spectrum Run is a side-scrolling, jumping-and-sliding endless runner.

Here’s what sets Spectrum Run apart from most other endless runners, though: color matching.

Well, if you’re also familiar with Escape from Age of Monsters, you can argue that that endless running game also involves a bit of color matching. Yeah, sure, but the color matching there is not nearly as challenging as it is in Spectrum Run.

Spectrum Run begins with the story of Doc White. Doc White has just discovered the spectral particles and invented the prototype for what he calls the Spectrum Coat.

The coat apparently makes its wearer faster and more agile. So, Doc White is eager to test it, and he has built just the right course for it. And this is where all the game’s endless running comes into play.

The running course consists of a succession of differently colored gates. Now, for Doc White to pass through any of these gates, you must first be able to match the color of the Spectrum Coat with that of the gate.

You do this by tapping the red, blue, or yellow spectral particles on the left side of the screen. Then, you must slide your finger up, down, or forward across the screen to ensure Doc White’s safe passage through the oncoming gate with the corresponding color.

Naturally, failing to match the colors of coat and gate results in the termination of a game session. And that’s likely to happen the longer you run since one of the game’s key features is its fast-paced gameplay with increasing speed.

The game’s other features include randomly generated levels and full Game Center support with leaderboards and achievements.
