One of our favorite podcast apps here at AppAdvice, Downcast, has just been updated with some nice new features.
Version 2.7.12 of the app now contains an option for multi-episode media file exporting from podcast subscriptions. Users can also directly download media files via a URL.
And the update adds an option to change how the app behaves when moving from Wi-Fi to cellular. With the Wi-Fi only setting enabled, automatic feed refreshes and streaming episodes stop when hopping onto the cell network.
A few bugs are also dealt with in the new version. Fixes include the bug in permanent podcast feed URL redirection detection and for resuming videos at the correct position via AirPlay.
Downcast is a universal app for both the iPhone/iPod touch and iPad. It can be downloaded in the
App Store for $1.99 and is optimized for the larger, 4-inch screen of the iPhone 5.
While Apple’s own Podcasts app was released
earlier this year to less-than-universal praise, Downcast has done a great job innovating and adding news features.
Our own Christine Chan recently pitted
Downcast,
Instacast, and
Podcastsin an
App Showdown. And she declared Downcast the winner thanks to it being a universal app and its robust set of features like iCloud syncing.
