A significant update has recently checked into OverDrive Media Console.
OverDrive Media Console is an app that lets you — provided you’re duly registered at one of the app’s supported libraries — easily borrow library books and audiobooks. Borrowed titles can then be read or listened to right within the app.
I’m pretty sure it’s no overstatement to describe OverDrive Media Console as an iDevice-owning library card holder’s best friend.
Well, OverDrive Media Console has just become an even better best friend, so to speak, thanks to its latest update.
The update, in particular, delivers several new features that seek to enhance your ability to adjust your reading experience in the app.
Overdrive Media Console
First, you now have the option to read books using the app’s multi-column view. This new option has long been available in other e-reading apps including iBooks and Kindle, so it’s nice to finally see it in OverDrive Media Console.
You can now also take advantage of the app’s image viewer, which lets you pan and zoom images and charts within books. Furthermore, you can now change the font style with bold fonts and turn pages with sliding transitions.
The new version of OverDrive Media Console also includes a redesigned audiobook player, an in-app browser for OverDrive-powered sites, and sharing options for Goodreads.
Note, though, that the app now collects anonymous usage data to be used in its continuing development. If you want to opt out of sending anonymous usage data, just disable the “Send Usage Stats” setting in the app.
Compatible with iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad, OverDrive Media Console is available in the App Store for free. The newly updated app is now also optimized for the iPhone 5 and the fifth-generation iPod touch.
