Blue Note Records has launched a new app for iPad that offers aficionados and newcomers alike a chance to experience jazz music in a new way. Developed by Groovebug, the free Blue Note app delivers a unique way of discovering and enjoying classic jazz recordings from a label that has been around since 1939. The app features a deep catalogue of seminal tracks to stream and a wealth of interactive content from iconic Blue Note artists such as Wayne Shorter, Dexter Gordon, and Art Blakey.
Available exclusively in U.S. and U.K. App Stores, Blue Note is a free download and features 30-second clips of each song contained in the app. For $1.99/£1.49 per month, users can enjoy all of the tracks in their entirety.

The Blue Note app is the first to be released through OpenEMI. First launched at the end of 2011, the initiative is being used to better streamline the music licensing process for developers. The platform is powered by The Echo Nest, which offers developers tools for recommendation and discover.
I’ve been using the Blue Note app for a few days and find it quite interesting and enjoyable. Not only is it an impressive source of music, but it also provides many backstories that make each song come alive.
