Comparing tablets is extremely difficult, especially when the comparison is made exclusively on paper. Still, I’m going to give it a shot.
When Apple announced the iPad Mini, they were certainly looking at what their competitors had on the market. In doing so, Apple developed a feature rich product that offers far more choices to customers than does Amazon’s Kindle Fire HD and Google’s Nexus 7. Specifically, Apple’s newest tablet is the only one of the three that is available with cellular connectivity. In addition, the iPad mini is the only tablet with a front and back facing camera.
Comparing the iPad mini with other tablets
However, these extras don’t come free. The iPad mini is much more expensive than both the Kindle Fire HD and Nexus 7. The 16GB model, which is the only model available from all three companies. Apple is charging $329. By comparison, both Amazon and Google charge $199. Whether this difference is enough to slow iPad mini sales remains unknown.
Where Apple may have a problem with the iPad mini is when you compare it to the iPad 4. I’ll do that in a future post.
