Mailbox's Reservation Line Is History

If you’ve wanted to try out the iPhone app Mailbox, but didn’t want to deal with the virtual wait in line, we’ve got some good news. In an official blog post, developer Orchestra announced that the much-despised reservation system is history..........................

Good news! Mailbox is now available without having to wait in line. After 10 weeks of around-the-clock hard work, our engineering team has scaled the Mailbox service to deliver over 100 million messages per day (and growing). We believe we can now confidently handle new users as they sign up, so we’ve pulled down the reservation system.
The end of the reservation system comes just a day after the app wasupdated to version 1.2.0. The new version includes the ability to swipe as many items at one time as you want and a smarter snooze system that can be adjusted for the time of day and week.
After originally hitting the App Store in February, Mailbox has gotten a whirlwind of publicity. To help lessen the strain on its servers, users previously were put in a virtual reservation line after downloading the app.
Just six weeks after the app’s release, Mailbox quickly fulfilled its 1 millionth reservation. That milestone was announced shortly after Dropbox acquired the company.
Mailbox is designed for the iPhone and iPod touch. It can be downloaded now in the App Store for free.
While I’m glad to see the reservation system bite the dust, I wasn’t all that impressed with Mailbox. After trying it out, I’ve quickly moved back to the standard Mail client on my iPhone.
