Garmin Offers Advanced Navigation Through Projection With iPhone-Connected HUD

Garmin has just announced its new portable head-up display (HUD)accessory that connects with its smartphone navigation apps, including those for iPhone....................

“HUD redefines the navigation experience by allowing drivers to find their way without taking their eyes off the road,” said Garmin VP of worldwide sales Dan Bartel. “Head-up displays currently have their place in select high-end cars, but HUD makes this technology available as an aftermarket accessory for any vehicle, at an affordable price.”
Garmin’s HUD is set to offer advanced navigation through windshield projection. Its main feature is its ability to project navigation informationonto a car’s windshield right within the driver’s line of sight, thereby reducing driver distraction while on the road.
The types of navigation information that can be displayed on the HUD include turn-by-turn directions, ETA and Lane Assist, as well as speed, traffic and safety camera alerts. These bits of information are obtained from a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone running a supported Garmin navigation app.
Being a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone that can run Garmin’s StreetPilot Onboard and NAVIGON apps, the iPhone is set to work quite well with the HUD.
Garmin’s HUD is priced at $129.99 and is expected to become available this summer.
