Slumber Sam (Free) by Spiel Studios is a game where the goal is to make sure that your lazy friend doesn’t fall asleep. Ever have a roommate that does nothing but sleep all the time, but you want to just annoy him for no reason? Well, this game lets you do just that, without any consequences. The game mechanics are reminiscent of that of Paper Toss.......................
I always love finding new ways to annoy my friends sometimes, but don’t want to get them too upset. Fortunately, now you can take that out on slumbering Sam, without having to worry about him giving you a nice pummeling later on, or something to that effect. And when you combine it into a nice little time waster, well, you have a winner, right?
The visuals in Slumber Sam are rendered in 3-D, and have a bit of the cartoonish feel to them, but that’s the point, as your friend Sam is just so ridiculous. You’ll laugh at Sam’s fat as objects bounce off of him, his gross flatulence, and his other hilarious bodily reactions. You’re going to need a sense of humor for this game. The game menu features some nice tunes, and the sound effects coming from Sam are pretty realistic.
There are two game modes in Slumber Sam: Classic and Zen. Classic will feature Sam sleeping in bed, and you will continuously throw objects at him to prevent him from sleeping. If you miss three times, he will roll over., making it a bit harder to get to him. Three more consecutive hits will make him roll back. Zen gives players only 60 seconds, and the goal is to knock him down on the couch by getting consecutive hits.
The controls in both game modes are incredibly simple: an object will be at the bottom of the screen, and you just have to flick it towards Sam. Of course, it would be too easy if there weren’t anything in the way, right? To add a layer of difficulty to annoying Sam, the game has a fan that will change position on the screen (left or right) and have different wind strengths, so it will affect the trajectory of your throw. You need to keep an eye on the fan and use it to your advantage to hit Sam. Otherwise, he will just keep sleeping. You can undo your throw with the undo button, and there are power-ups in Zen mode.
The game features various challenges that you will want to complete, as they will earn coins. The coins are used to unlock more objects to throw at Sam, including hamburgers, bottles, and alarm clocks. You can also earn coins by filling up the meter on the right with good, consecutive hits.
There is Game Center integration for leaderboards, but no achievements, which I found a bit disappointing.
If you’re looking for a fun little time waster for long waits, and appreciate some silly humor every now and then, Slumber Sam is a game that fits the bill. Plus, who wouldn’t like to throw things at their roommate and not have to worry about the outcome of it?
