Shelf Control: Read E-Books And Web Articles Faster On Your iDevice With Fastr

Early last January, my colleague Christine reviewed the speed-reading appRead Quick here on AppAdvice. In the main, she liked Read Quick, but she lamented the app’s lack of support for importing, most notably, ePub books. She correctly noted that “not everyone would want to improve their reading by just reading Web content. I think that if I could get books in this app, I’d actually finish more books.” Well, in that case, what Christine — and perhaps you — might be looking for after all is Fastr....................

Featured today on Shelf Control mainly on account of its new update, Fastr is an app that lets you speed-read ePub books in addition to Web articles.

The latest update to the app brings a number of significant improvements, not least of which is universal support. Released as an iPad-only app in June last year, Fastr is now, at long last, compatible with iPhone and iPod touch as well.
In addition to universal support, iTunes file sharing support for adding books is included in Fastr’s new update, which also offers the following enhancements for syncing with the Fastr Web app and other devices:
  • Book upload from iPad to the cloud to sync with web app and iPhone/iPod app (syncs in both directions)
  • Reading position saving and sync with Fastr app on other the devices (syncs in both directions)
  • User book reading statistics sync with Fastr web app and other devices
  • Opening books for reading and speed reading on the web
Furthermore, the update adds text highlighting, highlight sharing, smart chunking, a new page flipping animation, and a redesigned table of contents and book overview.

Late last January, Fastr was made available for free. I hope you were able to download it then, considering that the app is currently available for $5.99, which, I must say, is a rather steep price. In comparison, Read Quick costs a couple of dollars less. But then again, Read Quick carries less functionality than Fastr.
